Production Blog: A Few Things Not Mentioned

Image
Hello Bloggers! As you may now know we are reaching the end of finishing our sequence.  The last few blogs have been about editing and improving my opening sequence to get ready for submission. This blog however, is more about what I forgot to mention over the past few months like how we got the props for our set and how as a group we worked together. To begin with how we gathered the props necessary to make our scenes look the best possible. We first picked up a gorilla suit from party city and made sure it was breathable so the person using it wouldn't overheat. Since we also couldn't use a real dead animal, we had to improvise using rags and making an animal like shape. We also had made our own fake blood using a cheap recipe with ingredients we already had. The blood turned out too sticky and far too bright and cartoony, so I scrapped it. We then just went and brought an entire gallon of dark fake blood in order to have the most professional and immersive effect on the ope

Production Blog: Still Making a Few Edits

Hello bloggers! As you know my group are very close to finishing up everything to our final task. We did both filming sessions which went well. We then reviewed the film and looked over a few things. After that we got a friend to review the film and give us feedback. After receiving the feedback we made improvements to the sequence.  Trying new structures of the plot but it strayed too far from the original pitch and was confusing at times. Throughout this process I was getting increasingly frustrated which was obstructing my creative thinking. I took a break for a few days and rewatched the sequence again. I realized that I had been overthinking far too much in terms of what was actually wrong with my sequence. All it needed was a few seconds shaved off of it in order for the pacing and transitioning to make more sense. After coming to this realization, I immediately started looking for fluff in the sequence that was not relevant to the pitch or the progression of the sequence. I als

Hey bloggers and welcome back to the continuation of my opening sequence. Today I will be tinkering throughout my sequence attempting to make it as improved as possible. Very similarly to what I did with my last blog. Considering how much I tweaked during the film review and the critique I used. It was relatively hard for me to see what was still wrong with the opening sequence. This meant I had to thoroughly watch and rewatch our current sequence in order to find thing I could improve upon. This took me quite a bit of minutes before finding pieces of the opening sequence that were not up to standard. The first thing I changed was the positioning of the titles as I wasn't very fond of where they previously were. At times the titles blocked out some important backgrounds or scenes due to their position and size. After noticing this I shifted almost all of the titles so that they would occupy different corners in places without importance to the sequence. I made sure however, to n

Hello Bloggers! As you may know we partnered up with my friend to make sure we could get the best sequence possible. My friend helped us go over many things that he saw. He pointed out the flaws and also the positives about our sequence. He saw that our sound design was a little off and that we need to work on it. So with that in mind me and my group got right into it with the improvement needed. We began by adjusting the volumes on the different shots to make them go together a lot smoother and to just improve the quality. One scene was crazy loud and then the next scene was very low which just made the transition sound terrible. The scene in the woods had very low dialogue so it made it hard to understand anything. Enzo put them into Cap Cut and had to mess with it until it was right. Cap Cut is an app we have used previously many times so we are now good at using it. I'm glad we got the experience because now we can do it without taking a long time. We then replaced the old sho

Production Blog: Peer Review

Hello bloggers, welcome back previously as you may know me and my group have finished filming our opening sequence. Today I had a friend  look through our video and tell me their honest opinion on it. My friend reviewed every shot filmed at least 5 times. This was done to make sure that the video would be appealing to someone watching it. My friend criticized some features of the video such as the lighting in some of the shots a they looked a little off. After hearing this we improved those shots and allowed my friend to watch them again for confirmation. The volume of some of the shots were also blatantly louder than others which needed a fix as well. According to my friend the sound was the biggest problem with out opening sequence. So I took his criticism and told my group and we worked to fix the issue. He also had positive comments as he thought the acting was done well. This made me happy because I thought the acting was mediocre but he ended up enjoying it. He said that we did

Production Blog: Finishing Filming for our Opening Sequence

Hello bloggers, welcome back and today we have some more things to discuss. So as may know, I have previously begun filming with my group. The filming has now been completed and I think it looks pretty good. Despite all the challenges we faced during the filming process we still pulled through and got it done. It is something I am pretty proud of  because we worked together and had fun making a opening sequence of a film which is something I've never done in the past. But this second filming session was much harder than the last. This is because we had to implement weather in our filming. This proved to be difficult as we needed to wait for rain/storm to come and we would need to record quickly before it vanished. It was also hard to film in these conditions as  sometimes the video would come out distorted and just messy in general. Sometimes we would even have to change filming locations and we assigned Enzo to make sure it was done safely. We also would have to film in the woods

Production Blog: Filming Our Opening Sequence

Hello bloggers, as you may know previously I was working on selecting the music for our opening sequence. Finding the music was a rather tedious process but worked out. Just like before it took a while for the group to be able to meet together. This was because of our different schedules which made it harder for us to make the meeting. So yesterday afternoon we came together and filmed our first storyboard of our opening sequence. We all dressed in basic pajamas with caps and eye covers. We would also then have to come together and decide who would be the main character for our sequence. This choice would be made based on who was the most comfortable with the camera on them. They would need to be comfortable because being the main character means that you are usually going to be on camera most of the time. We also faced some trouble with the weather as during this time it was very windy and cold. This made it challenging to go out and film and also caused a member to fall ill. However

Production Blog: Selecting Music for Our Opening Sequence

Image
Hello bloggers as you may know me and my group are working on our final task. Today I will be choosing the music for our thriller opening sequence. This was a little challenging as there would be 2 type of music that would be used. For the opening sequence we would have to merge the two types of music effectively. If not done right it would make the whole sequence sound unpleasing. The first type of music we will use is upbeat, comforting, and overall a friendly type of audio. The second type of music that will be used will be creepy, suspenseful, and more uncomfortable than the first song. The combination is used to try to bring out as much emotions as possible from the audience. Due to the diversity of the two types of music trying to merge them will have its difficulties. I have looked at other opening sequences to observe how the transition would happen. I got an idea of how it could work but a lot of the sequences kept the music relatively similar. Most of the opening sequences h
